Dahi Bhalla – Soft & Chilled Street Snack from India & Pakistan

Dahi Bhalla is a soft, cold, and super tasty snack made from lentil balls soaked in curd (dahi). It’s sweet, salty, spicy — all in one! This dish is very popular in India and Pakistan, especially in summer or during festivals.

It’s served with yogurt, chutneys, and a sprinkle of spices. It’s light on the stomach and fun to eat. Let’s make this refreshing snack at home!

📋 Ingredients:

For Bhalla (Vada):

  • 1 cup urad daal (white lentils)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

For Topping:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt (whisked) 🥛
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • Tamarind chutney (imli)
  • Green chutney (mint/coriander)
  • Roasted cumin powder
  • Red chili powder
  • Chaat masala

👨‍🍳 Steps to Make:

  1. Soak urad daal in water for 4–5 hours. Drain and grind into a thick paste.
  2. Add a little salt and beat the batter well to make it fluffy.
  3. Heat oil and fry small balls until golden and cooked.
  4. Soak hot bhallas in warm water for 10 mins. Then press gently to remove water.
  5. Place bhallas in a plate or bowl. Pour yogurt on top.
  6. Add chutneys and sprinkle spices. Serve cold and enjoy! 😋

💡 Tips:

✅ Beat the batter well to make bhallas soft.
✅ You can add boiled potatoes or papdi too.
✅ Chill before serving for best taste.
