Falafel – Crispy Chickpea Snack from the Middle East

Falafel is a deep-fried snack made from chickpeas. It’s crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s a famous street food in the Middle East, often served in wraps or with salad and hummus. 🌯🥗

📋 Ingredients (for 10–12 pieces):

  • 1 cup dried chickpeas (soaked overnight)
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon flour or chickpea flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Oil for deep frying

👨‍🍳 Steps to Make:

  1. Soak dried chickpeas overnight in water. Drain and dry them before use.
  2. Add chickpeas, onion, garlic, herbs, and spices in a food processor. Blend until it becomes a rough paste.
  3. Add flour and baking soda. Mix well.
  4. Make small round balls or flat patties.
  5. Heat oil and deep fry on medium heat until brown and crispy.
  6. Drain and serve with tahini, hummus, or in pita bread! 🫓

💡 Tips:

✅ Don’t use canned chickpeas — they’ll break while frying.
✅ Keep mixture thick — not too soft.
✅ You can also air fry or bake for a healthier version.
