Nankhatai – Desi Cardamom Cookies

Nankhatai is a soft and crumbly cookie that melts in your mouth. It’s a desi-style biscuit made with flour, sugar, ghee, and cardamom. It’s perfect with tea or as a quick sweet snack for guests and kids. ☕🍪

These cookies don’t need eggs or fancy tools. You can make them in an oven or even on a stove. Let’s learn how to make this simple and yummy traditional treat at home!


📋 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/4 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1/4 cup sooji (semolina)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup ghee (or butter) 🧈
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder (elaichi)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • A few chopped pistachios or almonds (optional)

👨‍🍳 Steps to Make:

  1. In a large bowl, add ghee and sugar. Mix well until it becomes creamy.
  2. Now add flour, besan, sooji, cardamom powder, and baking powder. Mix everything together.
  3. Make a soft dough using hands. If dry, add 1–2 spoons of milk.
  4. Divide into small balls and flatten slightly. Add pistachio on top if using.
  5. Place on baking tray. Bake at 160°C for 15–18 minutes until light golden.
  6. Let them cool completely. They will become crispy after cooling.
  7. Store in an airtight box and enjoy anytime! 🫙
